ST ANDREWS (Douglas Co) SPRING WHEAT – 2005 WSU VARIETY TESTING DATA

1.       2005 Spring Wheat data from the WSU Variety Testing nursery at the St Andrews location averaged 27.6, 23.5, and 24.1 bu/ac for soft white spring, hard white spring and hard red spring wheat, respectively.  The 2005 spring wheat average yields were nearly 17% higher in the soft white wheat and similar to the 3-year average for hard white and hard red spring wheat varieties.  This nursery was planted as re-crop under no-till conditions (cross-slot drill) following a 2004 spring oat crop.  This nursery has been in continuous spring crop since established in 2003. NOTE:  The St Andrews location is located on Bill & Dean McLean’s farm in Douglas County, approximately 10 miles north of Coulee City, WA off SR17.

2.       This location represents a low rainfall region with limited precipitation during the 2005 growing season that can be observed in high grain protein percentages for all wheat market classes evaluated.

3.       In general, variety YIELD RANKINGS were similar to 3-year historical yield rankings.
